Welcome to British Military Medals

Collecting 'British Military Medals' must be one of the most interesting and rewarding hobbies or past times linked to military history. Unlike the collector of military uniforms or weapons or equipment, those who amass a collection of medals will find a direct and personal link to the history of those who actually took part in the battles and campaigns from the Napoleonic Wars to the operations of the present day. Research of a recipient of a group or even a single medal can reveal much about the individual from their life before enlistment in the armed forces up to their point of discharge or death.

The following pages however concentrate on the individual campaign medals struck to commemorate the many campaigns and wars fought by Great Britain and her colonies from the Napoleonic wars to the present day. Gallantry, long service, coronation and jubilee medals are also covered and the Information given on each medal has been built up over a number of years from various sources being more comprehensive than many books currently in print. All images (unless otherwise stated) are from my own personal collection built up over the last 10 years.

You will find information on collecting, displaying, and caring for your medals as well as providing background information on individual items with the aim of assisting the collector. As with all forms of collecting military memorabilia the collector should make himself aware of the historical background of the campaign for which the medal is awarded. To aid those interested in finding out more you will find links to books offered by Amazon Books on each page. For ease of browsing we have also set up an 'Online Book Shop' listing all these books in categorised lists. Finally I have included some links to various dealers on the Internet all of whom I have done business with and offer a first rate service.

While I am an experienced collector and have done much research into the field of medal collecting, I do not consider myself an 'expert'. If you yourself are a collector and wish to comment on my site, point out mistakes or have any information you think would be useful to add please contact me at webmaster@britishmilitarymedals.co.uk
